2017 Celebration of Motherhood Dinner a Tremendous Success!

The Villa Rosa Celebration of Motherhood Dinner

held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 raised over $30,000

from sponsorships, silent auction,

raffle, ticket sales and additional donations!

The funds raised will be used to help young moms stay in school and pursue post-secondary education as well as to support Villa Rosa in providing a warm, nurturing and supportive environment that encourages these young women to become they best they can be for themselves and their child in every important personal aspect: educational, intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical.

Guests were greeted by our friendly staff members, Lynda, Ursula, Barb, Erin and Joan and were guided to their tables in the beautifully appointed ballroom of the Holiday Inn Winnipeg Airport-Polo Park.  Candlelit centrepieces of floating gerbera daises and votives lent a soft, welcoming glow to each table. Before dinner, guests enjoyed musical entertainment by Patrick Alexandre accompanied by Duane Dueck, a cash bar and perused the Silent Auction and Coach handbag raffle.

Nancy Gregory of Media 1 Productions and former CBC/CTV news anchor, producer and reporter, made a warm and welcoming emcee for the evening and kept the programme moving along nicely.

Cassi Suru was the star of the evening as she spoke eloquently and honestly of her experience as a Villa Rosa resident 13 years ago when she gave birth to her daughter, Ava, and of her journey from young single mother to current Villa Rosa social worker.  Not only did Cassi benefit from our counseling, parenting programs and schooling, but with the assistance of Villa Rosa’s Endowment Fund, Cassi attended Red River College and obtained a degree in Business Administration.

After working at Assiniboine Credit Union for a time, she realized that her heart was in social work, and the Villa Rosa Endowment fund once again assisted her in obtaining her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Manitoba. After graduating from University, Cassi gained experience in her chosen field of social work through her employment with Métis Child & Family Services, and then realized her dream when she was hired as a Villa Rosa Social Worker in January 2017.  Cassi is now the mother of 13-year old Ava and 2 year old Alivia with her loving partner, William.

In total, Cassi received $17,500 in Endowment Fund Scholarships to help her achieve her educational and personal goals.

Because of our valued donors, we have been able to support young moms like Cassi through our Program and award Endowment Fund Scholarships - we thank you all sincerely for your generosity - would couldn't do it without you!
