
JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Evening Residential Care Worker
Accountable to: House Manager
Salary Scale: Equivalent to all the RCW’s at Villa Rosa on a 5 step scale
Purpose of Position: To provide supervision and support to the residents 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m
A. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA:
Villa Rosa operates in a teamwork philosophy and each staff person is expected to be a participating member of that team.
Specific Duties:
To work cooperatively and respectfully with supervisor and other staff members.
To communicate appropriately and effectively within the team.

B. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA:
Maintain well -being of all moms and babies in the residence.
Specific Duties:
Supervise the meals, assign or ask for volunteers for chores.
Supervise the group during meals and during the evening, stopping swearing or gossiping and dealing with any conflict that arises.
Sit with the residents in lounge or dining room and get to know them
Play board games, watch movies, call bingo if pre-arranged
Check each room at bedtime to check for fans, lights, or music on or windows open. Also check before calling someone in awol that they actually are not in their room. Document times checked.
Supervise household duties.
Put away and label leftover food with date
Dispense and log medicines, as needed
Observe behaviour of residents and babies.
Set limits for bedtime and inappropriate behaviours.
Prepare residents for the hospital and reassure residents who are in labour.
Document all shift’s activities on ROSE.
Calling the appropriate people in case of emergency (Director, Maintenance, Child & Family Services, police).
As soon as a new resident comes in and out, assign them a laundry time and post it up and downstairs
Show new residents how to do their laundry and how to clean their bathroom – including showing them where the supplies are
Each Thursday evening do bathroom and bedroom checks after supper and follow up with residents who have not cleaned. This may include cleaning it with them to teach them how.
Take residents one at a time, as requested by them or their social worker, to look through donated clothes in the clothing depot following guidelines provided. Tidy room as necessary.
C. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA:
Security of Building.
Specific Duties:
Checking and locking doors and windows.
Make security check on residents’ well being and building each hour.
Check the stove in kitchen and turn fan off.
Follow security procedure if alarm is activated.
Evacuate building to Post Natal House if fire alarm is activated
D. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA:
Interaction with external publics.
Specific Duties:
To answer door and to greet visitors.
To answer phone - take message and pass on to appropriate person.
Confidential information is only shared with CFS and the Police, and the guardian if the resident is under 18 and you are talking to them in person and know they are who they say they are.
E. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA:
Duties as assigned on attached duties and schedule and by Supervisor or by Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Child & Youth diploma/degree or experience with or having raised teenagers.
Ability to cope positively under pressure.
Good mothering skills and knowledge of up to date infant care.
Ability to work positively and respectfully in a team.
Child & Family Services, Child Abuse and Police Record checks.
Basic computer skills including data entry and documentation.
Experience
Experience working in a group setting with youths in care.
Experience with labour and delivery.
Education
Grade XII or equivalent
First Aid CPR level B or C for teachers and day care providers
Prefer Residential Youth Care worker Certificate, and Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certificates
