Most programs run September through June. All positions require a Child Abuse Registry check and Criminal Record search.
Volunteer opportunities that may be available include:
1. Parent Child Centre
Volunteers assist professional staff to care for infants and toddlers while their moms attend school. Staff and volunteers role model quality childcare as a way of teaching parenting skills to residents.
Babies cared for in the Parent Child Centre can weigh up to 35 pounds. Volunteers must be fit enough and flexible enough to pick up and hold babies for extended periods of time, and be able to sit on the floor to play with the babies as well as get down and get up off the floor with little difficulty.
Commitment is once a week, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon or 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Requires Emergency First Aid with Level "C" CPR.
Volunteer teaches crocheting and/or knitting on a one-to-one basis or with a small group after school or evenings.
3. Yoga Instructor
Volunteer provides pre-natal and post-natal yoga instruction to residents on a regular basis. Proof of Emergency First Aid with Level "C" CPR certification is required.
